The e-invoicing obligation in the B2B sector is rolling out step by step in Germany. Many companies face the same problem: their own software – an ERP system, a merchandise management system, or a grown administrative system – cannot output XRechnungen. Off-the-shelf solutions don't fit, and a complete system switch is disproportionate. I extend your existing system specifically with XRechnung export – without you having to abandon your familiar software.
XRechnung is Germany's implementation of the European standard EN 16931 for electronic invoices. I implement the export in CII format (UN/CEFACT Cross Industry Invoice) – one of two permitted XML syntaxes, with a decisive advantage: CII is also the technical foundation of ZUGFeRD. Those who use CII cover both common e-invoicing formats at once.
The right approach for your system depends on its architecture: an extension in the existing code, a preceding converter, a separate export component, or an interface to your system – I choose the approach that interferes least with grown structures.
A concrete example from my practice: A forest tree nursery used a grown management system in C/C++ that could create invoices – but could not output XRechnung XML. I retrofitted the CII export, including validation against the official KoSIT validator (XRechnung validator configuration).
