Open map data, jointly maintained by Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and TomTom.
Overture Maps is the newer, more structured alternative in the open mapping ecosystem. Addresses, buildings, and points of interest are often better normalized than in OpenStreetMap, with clear versioning. I use Overture data where structured address and POI data is needed — often in combination with OSM for road networks and routing.
Overture Maps is an open mapping data initiative by the Overture Maps Foundation, jointly backed by Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and TomTom. Unlike OpenStreetMap, which is based on community mapping, Overture combines proprietary datasets from its members with OSM and delivers consistently structured, versioned data.
Strengths: addresses, buildings, points of interest, administrative boundaries. Anyone who needs structured POI or address data often finds Overture a better foundation than OSM.
I don't treat Overture and OpenStreetMap as competitors but as complementary: Overture for structured POIs, addresses, and buildings — OSM for road networks, routing data, and detailed mobility mapping. This combination delivers the best results in many applications.
Data integration, conversion into PostGIS, building custom vector tiles via PMTiles, POI search, address geocoding, and frontend integration via MapLibre. I also implement hybrid data pipelines (Overture + OSM + your own data).
Want to bring Overture Maps into your application? I handle data integration, processing, and frontend connection.
